2020 Graduates May Return to Campus for Photo Opportunity on July 11

Submitted on July 6, 2020

After consulting with local government and health officials, and in accordance with CDC guidelines, Georgetown College determined that it is unfortunately not possible for the college to host commencement festivities in-person, with the health and safety of students and their families in mind.

However disheartening this may be, the college is pleased to be able to offer graduates a chance to return to campus with guests and walk across Giddings Lawn in their cap and gown on Saturday, July 11. From 9:00 am EST to 5:00 pm EST, a photographer will be on campus to take photos of graduates with President Will Jones.

In his message to the graduating class of 2020 with this news, President Jones said, “ The committee and I are sad and disappointed to have to share this news with you. We had several conversations with local and state officials, but were denied approval to move forward with various versions of our plans.”

Graduates may sign up for a time slot to be photographed at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040b4caba92eaaf49-commencement. To ensure the safety and health of all on campus, all staff, visitors, and guests on campus that day will be required to wear masks, except for during the photo with President Jones. The college will also be incorporating extra sanitation protocols.
